For the Next Generation

In Judges 2:10, Scripture records a sobering reality: an entire generation arose that knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel, leading to rapid cultural compromise and spiritual collapse. While the Joshua generation possessed an intimate, experiential knowledge (yāḏa‘) forged through parted rivers, falling walls, and wilderness provision, their children inherited a comfortable land without a living testimony of their own. Faith cannot be caught by osmosis; Deuteronomy 6 commands that it must be intentionally taught. Yet as parents and leaders, we often fall into the trap of insulating our families from hardship, forgetting that God's greatest names—Deliverer, Provider, Healer, and Peace—are not learned in a classroom, but forged in the furnace of real trials. A generation that never knows the battles will never value the altar, and if we fail to tell our children the stories of how God fought for us, the world will happily give them its idols.
